During the United Kingdom, the whole process of metrication and European units of measurement directives have been envisioned to remove using the pound and ounce, but in 2007 the European Commission abandoned the need for metric-only labelling on packaged merchandise there, and permitted for twin metric–imperial marking to continue indefinitely.[
